Im 17 in Pennsylvania. and got pulled over for my slightly blue fog lights. (by blue I mean like the tint of blue on BMW / acura headlights.) the Penndot warning notice says I have to remove the fog lights and get it signed by a cop or inspection station. It says I have within 5 days of the date of warning to mail in the card properly certified to insure cancelation of the complaint. Failure to comply will bring penalties as prescribed by law.

does that mean I get fined by mail if i dont send it in?

or the next time I get pulled over its a ticket?

I really dont feel like taking them off as they are very nice to drive with.

  1. does that mean I get fined by mail if i dont send it in?    YES

by them giving me a ticket do you mean next time, or right after 5 days?     5 days

That means: you have 5 or less days to get it signed off.  If you don't then they will put a warrant out for your arrest and can seize your car.

  2. Sounds to me like if you don't comply with the warning they could fine you or suspend the license on the non compliant vehicle. Most states have laws forbidding blue, or red lights on the front of a vehicle for the reason of preventing confusion with actual emergency vehicles. You would be in far more trouble if people start reporting you for impersonating a police officer if they were to confuse your lights with that of a police car, even if you didn't pull over with them.

  3. Yes, the officer can issue a ticket for the original stop if you don't respond in 5 days.

If you check the warning notice, it will say "future operation is illegal". This means if you get pulled over again, even before the 5 days are up, you could wind up with two tickets, or more.

  4. hahaha No they are not joking. They will give you a ticket. Bad for your driving history, try to keep it clean as long as you can, and you are only 17!!!

  5. penalties prescribed by law ... a ticket and a fine ... immediately after the 5 days .

He gave you a warning .. take advantage of it .

  6. Yes. That system has already started the complaint process against you. They are giving you a 5 day window to interrupt and stop the process by removing the prohibited equipment.

In my state we don't have that system in place but everytime I issue a warning for an equipment violation I tell them that I will mail them a summons if they don't come back within 10 days to show me that it was corrected.

  7. It sure can.  You have so many days to get it corrected on signed and then take or mail the corrected warrening ticket to the department were the officer works.
