Can a politician who ran unopposed be recalled?

In other words, can one file a recall petition with the state against a politician who ran unopposed? Thanks in advance for your help!

    however today - it is used as a vote of no confidence in some arenas - - ex: Grey Davis - recalled - new election - - - that could be done in California even if he was unopposed as far as I know - would have to check exact wording of recall process

    depends on statutory guidelines - 50 different states - many other political offices - I'm sure it varies from one state / office to another
