Can a private citizen own supersonic "military like" jet?

Question

I know u cant own a military grade jet. what i mean is similar ( Minus sophisticated avionics and weapons capability) just speed and maneuverability

You certainly can, a gentleman in my small town keep and old old mig in flying condition and ocassionally takes it out,, it burns fuel very badly. and loud as h**l compred to the cessnas and other little prop aircraft totleing around.

He spends a lot of times get parts or haveing them machined,as they do not make this aircraft anymore or he cant find the parts

Trade-a-plane has any number of L-39 aircraft for sale at any given time.  Frequently you can even find a T-38.

Keep in mind....a boat is a hole in the water that you throw money into... a plane is a hole in the sky that you throw money into.

If you can afford to buy it and maintain it, you can own it... At least that's the way it is in the USA.

Yes, but it has to be a retired miltary aircraft and not be currenly active, with some exceptions if the aircraft have been demilitarized. The aircraft has to be registered with the FAA usually under a restricted or experimental catagory, and can not operate it over Mach 1 anywhere over the continental US.  

You can actually get permits from the ATF to actually have an armed aircraft with orginal guns, but it is almost impossible, and more of a  hassle than just putting air cannon replica's in.  Importing an aircraft say from Russia like a Su-27 is subject to strict import regulations, duties, taxes, and records. Not to say it cant be done, but the purchase, sale, import/export of the aircraft will be watched by the Russian Gov't, and the US Governement as well as any parts for the aircraft bought or sold.

Maybe from Russia But US govt regs etc impede this sadly.

Good idea proven in post WW1 by fliers using Army Jennys for 1920s barnstorming shows.

Unless U lobby US Govt real hard.
