Hi there, i have been depressed about my nose all my life, it's seriously crooked to one side of my face and have breathing problems out of my left nostril (the side it goes to).

Anyway, i don't really get along with my gp i was seriously depressed a couple of months back and all he had to say was 'the whole world is against you' in a mocking way, perscribed me some antidepressants and that was that.

Now to the main point, if i go to my doctor i know he is just going to be the same way, but can i make an appointment with a private dr and get him to refer me to a nhs specialist to see if i can have my nose fixed?

I would honestly pay for it myself becuase it gets me down that much. I'm a single mother on benefits (at the moment, i do plan to work) and even with a child working on my own i find it impossible to find a way to pay for it.

Is there any possibilty at all that i can get on the nhs? (I live in the UK)

I'd be greatfull for any advice you can give...

  1. Hi Amanda,

To answer your question speedily, YES you can!

The first thing to do, is find another GP! It's imperative that you have a GP that sincerely cares about you and your COMPLETE mental and physical well-being. Being given a prescription for antidepressants and sent home, is certainly NOT a cure for an obvious sinus problem. Whether your nose looks appealing or not, this problem is evidently affecting your sinuses! I would definitely get a new GP who understands the physiological problem as well as your  emotional symptoms that are only natural to have with your condition.

I live in the U.S. so I can't give you a referral. All I can do is point out the obvious.

You deserve to have a good doctor who will refer you to a specialist to treat and cure your sinus/nose problems. I think you will feel better emotionally once you move on to another doctor who is genuinely concerned and caring.

    Best of health to you!

Get a new doctor, Amanda! Don't let this get you down any more. Take control of your health ---starting with a new doctor! Ask your friends and family for good references for a good doctor!

    My pleasure :)
