If there is a semi pro fight on offer with a title shot, can a pro fighter take this? is it just the rules that differ, or is it, when you turn pro, you are considered a better standard and not alowed?

  1. that will be like moving back into a 1-room apartment

  2. Of course they end up going back to the little leagues when they can't handle the heat with the pro's

  3. well once you turn pro you can not go back to amateur. the athletic commission will most likely refuse to let the fight take place, so unless its not sanctioned by the athletic commission you will not see this happen

  4. It just depends on contract obligations and whether the promotion wants someone of pro calibur fighting their fighters.

  5. When I fought in a semi pro boxing tournament...different animal I know.  They said if you had any pro experience you were not allowed to compete with ammatures...for fear you'd hurt or kill them basicly.  So I'm thinking not, but who the h**l knows that might have been the rules for that one tournament

  6. You can fight semi-pro after you go professional.  Semi pro and professional are interchangable terms in many organizations.  It typically means that a person fights at a higher level, and for money, but not necessarily as their sole income.  Once a person "turns pro" he enters into a contract with a given organization.  That contract gives all the specifics of the circumstances under which he can fight.

Many professional fighters have endorsement contracts as well, which give them income or benefits pertaining to the product they are endorsing (free gear for example).  Lots of "pro" fighters have full-time jobs to make ends meet.  And some pro fighters will fight under different names (illegally) for $ and to keep their professional win/loss record clean.

The rules vary between organizations, and there are commissions to determine the eligibility of any given fighter.  Most organizations have their rules posted on a website.

    Hope that helps.
