Can a professional boxer do this?

retire for a year about 3 years before the olympics then comes back a year after retirement as an amateur boxer and tries to qualify for the olympics and if qualifies competes there?

  1. Clearly, you can't do this. . .but I think the real question is WHY?  Lots of other sports allow professionals to represent their countries in the Olympics. . .why not boxing?  Can you imagine the teams that would be made if pro boxers were allowed to enter the Olympics?  

    Having said that, it would KILL the world of amateur boxing.  Olympics are the top goal of an amateur.  If pros can enter, what's the point?


  2. No, as Chuck said. A professional can't just go back to being an amateur. That would be like a veteran sports player going back to being a rookie. It can't happen.

  3. No. Once you are a paid professional you lose your amateur status. There is no going backwards.
