Are public schools legally able to do that? I thought public schools meant that they can accept all children and teenagers.

  1. If you are very short on credits and you're about to turn 18, then the answer is Yes! Your school should assist you in finding an alternative program or another school to attend. By law, you should be enrolled in school if you're under the age of 18. Talk to an administrator at the school or contact directly your local unified school district office.

  2. Many PUBLIC schools are specialized now. You must meet certain parameters to gain admission. The district must find A school for you not THE school you choose.

  3. It depends of what kind of admissions you're talking about. It sounds like you're talking about an Inter/intradistrict Transfer. With that, a school can look at your grades as well as your behavior records to determine, if they have the space, weither or not a student can attend their school.

The space issue is the key point because they have to guarantee a seat in the school for any student that lives within the school boundaries. If there isn't enough room, they won't consider having an outside student attend their classes.

(You should check with the rules of the specific state and school district just to be sure...)
