Can a pygmy goat be housebroken?

  1. pygmy goats make great pets but need to be kept outdoors.  I know some people have put them in diapers or tried to housebreak them but people do a lot of things that aren't for the best.

    Goats need to eat a great deal of hay and I have no idea how you'd get it to them in the house without a huge mess.  

    You really need to think of goats first as livestock needing good shelter and extra good fencing and then think of them as the great pets they can be.


  2. Yes, it is possible.  However, you'll need to start with a very young goat, just weaned.  An older goat who's lived outside his/her whole life won't  understand and will not become housebroken.

    The best pet would be a doeling (young female) or young wether (castrated male).  Bucks (billy goats) have pungent scent glands, urinate everywhere, and often get very large and and can be dangerous.
