Can a "butterfly bush" be started from clippings or do you have to have the roots?

  2. I hope it does because I just did this very thing last night.  I used root hormone and put the cuttings in a high humidity environment.  In my case, I used a plastic tub.  I think it will work well.

JanJoe you should have no problem rooting your butterfly bush clipping .  I would go to any Garden Center and buy small bottle of Rooting  Hormone, this will greatly increase your chances.  Cut off small piece about 6" long, leave only one leaf,  split end up about one inch dip in rooting hormone.  Stick your clipping about 3 ' deep into firmly packed soil,  of a small pot with drain holes in bottom.  Do not let soil dry out.  It will take about one month to root.
