I dug up a big one--about 5" long (they don't get very large in New Englands cold weather)--while raking leaves, and my wife wants to keep it. Is it possible to keep one as a pet?

  1. They eat worms, slugs, and small insects. They need to be kept cool, 70,72 degrees or below and moist. Too cool and they will hibernate, but that shouldn't be a problem inside. You saw their environment. Check your local laws. What species is it?

  2. Not very long. They have this nasty habit of dying.
