  1. Working out every other day isn't enough.  That's laughable if you seriously want to be a Recon Marine.  You should be doing 2 a days most days of the week.  Look into CrossFit.  It builds all around fitness.  Look up the CSS or combat swimmer sidestroke.  There are a few videos on youtube about it.  That's most likely the stroke you will be using during RIP and the Basic Recon Course.

Also, you make it sound like Recon is a stepping stone for becoming a Sniper.  This is hardly the case.  Sniper has its own MOS as done Recon.

  2. Run more an long distances at least five miles. Do workouts where you do Crunches, Swim, Run, and do pull ups. By the time you ship out you should be able to do 20+ pull ups 100+ crunches and run three miles in 18 minutes if you can pass that you chances of Being Recon will increase.

Swim 5 miles and do 2 miles with gear 25-45 pounds don't swim alone obviously. All swim with cammies or cargo pant and a long sleve shirt. If you to military.com then join military tab choose special ops center Marine Recon. What hands on detail ask ReKonDog he's with Recon he went Force Recon before it disbanded search military anwers he around.
