I have 5 years off alcohol and was in hospital in 2002 for detox off pills

  1. Yes, you'll just have to pay a bit more for it.  You also will likely get some turn-downs from some companies, but others would be happy to give you a policy.  

    You just have to let your agent know up front, so they can do the work for you, finding  a good company for you.


  2. After five years of continuous abstinence, many companies will insure you at standard rates (assuming you are otherwise healthy).  I don't think you'll ever qualify for preferred rates though.

  3. you may be rated, but go to a broker and he can find you the best company.  they will submitt your application to a lot of companies, which is good.  you never know until you try.  you do not have to accept any policy if the premium is to high.
