  1. Perhaps. Depending on the wind strength and direction and of course the ability to maneuver the parachute itself by the cords without becoming tangled. That's the key anytime one is relying on that parachute from dropping rapidly to avoid the inevitable. practice practice practice

Good luck. Let me know how it goes, it you can make it back to your computer :)+

  2. you wouldn't get enough speed for it. ever tried running down a hill with a parachute and jumping a couple of metres?

thats pretty much how it would go

  3. When I was younger (18) we used an old army parachute tied to the back of a Jeep in the middle of no where. Now, I'm not saying it was the best idea, but it worked. Take off's sometimes hurt, and landing was a baptized by fire kind of deal, but it provided a great summer! I can say now, that I would recommend getting the "correct" gear. If you try it, and things don't go well, don't blame me. I was young and "bounced" better than I would now. Lets put it this way...I wouldn't let my kids try it the way I did.

  4. what do you mean by "regular parachute"?  I'm a skydiver and a parachute rigger in training.  I know of many different types of parachutes and the uses and limits of each canopy....   Just grabbing some fabric to put over your head for skydiving, para sailing, para gliding.... not a good idea.  Find the equipment that is right for the needed use.
