(i live in san francisco, CA)

today after school i headed to my local corner store to buy a bag of chips. i gave the cashier 1.04 b/c i wanted a nickle back. when i recieved my nickle the own of the store came out and started yelling at me. he said,"there is crv tax on the bag of chips." luckly i got to keep me nickle

is there really a CRVtax on a bag of hot chips?

i always thought CRVtax only apply on items where you can recycle it for cash back? the bag is made of plastic but i dont believe its recyclable.

also please give me proff. i want to show the owner the next time i purchase a bag of hotchips

  1. You are correct.      CRV tax is not charged for chips.

CRV tax is charged on bottles and cans which hold beverages.    Thats it.   Nothing else is charged CRV.

    All the facts are here. . . . .

    http://www.conservation.ca.gov/dor/notic...

which you could print out and bring with you.

However, this seems like a really weird thing for the owner to do.   Are you sure it was the owner?  Anyone who sells beverages in CA should have a pretty good understanding of the CRV tax.

Also,   it seems like quite the drama about 5 cents.    :)
