depends on skill level and how big your talking about anything for hip and i doubt youll see many zap wedges you can ride back to shore on small days witha  wedge though

yes you can.  its an entry level board so its designed to get you to the wave and let you ride it in.  its not a performance board but you can get the basics down before upgrading.
