corn starcH?? Does it actually take the heat and pain away as well? Im dying here (it feels like) and Im 6 1/2 months pregnant so I have no idea what is safe

I had one on the inside of my leg and it freaked me out because I had never had one before and it hurt to walk.  My spouse suggested applying corn starch to it and it cleared up in 2 days.
