  1. if your rug can not be moved ( like wall to wall ) and you have ruled out mold , i would get your landlord to pay to have a professional cleaning to be done . this should have been done before you moved in . i hope this helps you .

i have known through experiance that sometimes you just have to get rid of carpets , due to mold or allergies .

  2. Yes, it's possible. You want to make sure that what you're smelling isn't mold or mildew, because that can also be very unhealthy in addition to being unpleasant.

If the odor is a byproduct of the manufacturing and dying process used to create the rug, it will go away. Some take longer than others. You can try airing it out outside, but be sure you don't put it somewhere where it might get wet. Drape it over something or hang it if you can.

Also, vacuuming can sometimes help. Do this before you air it out, and there's a good chance the order will be gone is a day.

    Good luck.

  3. If it is not cleaned very much, ya eventually it can smell. To get rid of it, bring it outside and get the garden hose and a drive-way broom. Spread some laundry detergent and baking soda over the carpet and scrub it with the broom, then let it sit for a few minutes rinse well with the hose. You may want to do the flip side aswell. Then let it air dry and you should have a fresh smelling carpet. In the future vacumm it and after spray febreez. Good Luck.
