  1. Yes, I used to work in a guidance office. If you have a fine or a debt to the school they can hold a transcript, records, report cards, et cetera. Pay the fine or replace the book. YOUR child should've been more careful and responsible. They should've respected the property the school issued him or her.

  2. YESSS they can.  I never got my last transcript from high school because because I didnt pay some fine. I knew my grades so I didnt need it, but they refused to give it to me.

  3. YES THEY CAN. You need to pay for the book or do what ever it take to get this clean.

  4. YES they can.  No it is not "childish, petty and unprofessional if the amount of money is fairly small" that causes them to hold your transcript.  It all adds up.  This year my school had over $13,000.00 it had to recover over lost or damaged  books, unpaid fees, etc.  Pay what you owe!

  5. NO IT IS NOT A VIOLATION OF NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND...THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH IT...LEGALLY, IF YOU ARE TRYING TO EXIT A SCHOOL, THAT SCHOOL HAS THE LEGAL RITE TO ASK THAT ALL DEBTS TO THAT SCHOOL ARE CLEARED BEFORE ANY RECORDS OR ANYTHING BE CLEARED BY THEIR OFFICES. KINDA LIKE ASKING MCDONALD'S FOR A HAMBURGER ON CREDIT...NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND HAS TO DO WITH TEACHING A CHILD IN THE FASHION THAT THAT CHILD CAN LEARN, EX. SPED, SMALLER CLASS SIZE, KINESTETICS, ETC.

YOUR BEST BET...QUIT HACKLING. PAY WHAT IS OWED.  GET YOUR PAPERWORK, AND GO ON ABOUT YOUR LIFE.  A DEBT FROM A SCHOOL IS AS LEGALLY BINDING AS ANY OTHER BILL YOU RUN UP.  MODEL BEING A RESPONSIBLE ADULT, ESP. IN FRONT OF YOUR CHILD.  DEAL WITH IT.

  6. A college or private school can do this if you owe them money.  It's childish, petty and unprofessional if the amount of money is fairly small.  A public school cannot withhold a transcript, unless there is an unresolved academic or disciplinary issue which keeps them from issuing a full and updated record.

And no, it has nothing to do with NCLB one way or another.

  7. yeah. a missing book or owed money puts your child on the obligation list. but as far as missing books go i believe you can pay for the cost of the book. hope i helped and good luck! :D
