Can a seatbelt come unbuckled from impact?

an accident occured, and im trying to prove that the seatbelt was on, but at the scene of the accident it was off

  1. It can if the seatbelt wasn't properly fastened or if it was defective.  The problem is proving it.


  2. there are signs of a seatbelt breaking so if it did they would know, ther is also the possibility it wasn't on corectly and didn't snap into place (happened to me)

  3. no im taking drivers today and we learnt how seatbelts wont unbuckle without the buttons on the clip being pressed. maybe the person next to them hade something on there belt that could have somehow pressed it o yeah my teacher was telling me how some ppls have been cut into pieces by there seatbelt because there body mass was so much at the speed travelled

  4. I have never heard of any unbuckling, I have heard of a few breaking their anchor bolts.

  5. Not if it was properly buckled.  The only way for it to have, otherwise, come undone, would cause a LOT of damage to the buckling mechanism.

  6. I have been in the automotive repair business over 37 years and the answer is no, either the seat belt is on of off and if it unbuckled as you have stated, then it would be defected and they would be able see it was defected.
