Can a server motherboard be used to play games on?

I knwo a crazy question,but I want to replace my mother board with a server one I saw. i still ahve the parts I want and the cards and everything else, my question is can I use a server motherboard to play computer games on?

  1. Yes you can. A server motherboard is theoretically the same as a PC one. The thing is, you will likely require a video card to be added onto it.

    If you had a motherboard from a true server (no I label a true server as being one that fits into a rack, has redundant power supplies, integrated nics, etc..) it will indeed be hard to get an addon video card and would be really expensive to play on. However it sounds like you simply have a motherboard from a system that you ran as a server, so you should be good to go.


  2. Sure, you can play games on a server motherboard, make sure all your other components are compatible. However, don't plan on overclocking because server motherboarda re horrible at that and are less stable in general.

  3. Yes.. as long as you can connect your graphics card to your motherboard you should be good to go - make sure it has the correct port (PCI). Server motherboards typically do not differ significantly from regular PC motherboards. Primary differences between servers and PCs are redundancy features and management software.
