Ive noticed all the winners in swimming atleast the men are quite tall,6-7,6-4 etc although there are alot of swimmers at the games that our 5-11 or 6 ft. they seem to always finish in the bottem half.Could it be that the shorter guys might actually be as good or better swimmers but the height thing is too much of a disadvantage to overcome?

  1. Maybe

  2. yea.

  3. The physique of a swimmer certainly restricts on how far a swimmer can go in his competitive carrer. Shorter swimmers are good and can compensate with their diligence. But I think the physique still is a big hindrance. In China, a child's physique determines what sports he/she will excel in and are segregated at a young age. That is the extent.

  4. I wouldn't say that the shorter athletes are necessarily as good/better, they may be who knows, but taller swimmers have a longer arm stroke and longer legs, so it takes fewer strokes to get to the end of the pool, and they can make their turn earlier, so a tall swimmer may have a couple inches of an advantage, but i think that it is mainly skill, especially when you see the taller swimmers ahead before a turn, because the height advantage is so slim at that point.
