If so, through what agency? I was on a waiting list for a few years so I started to wonder if I am discriminated against in comparison to a family that will consist of both a mother and father.

  1. Perhaps you could try adopting through foster care.  You might get an older child but it is still possible to get a baby or young toddler.

  2. I adopted from Russia as a single parent 10 yrs ago. I also thought it would be impossible, but you have to be very persistent!! I used Wide Horizons agency, although they came through in the long run I had to prove myself as a single parent. It can be a rough job doing it on your own but I wouldn't change anything. I wish you the best of luck.

  3. It's harder to raise a non-related child.

Why not just have your own?!

  4. Spirit_strutugal has a good idea about the foster care.  If you are willing to take a child with medical needs it will increase you chances.  Why are you so stuck on an infant?  There are hundreds of thousands of children that need a good adoptive home.  Adopt an older child and it won't cost you a thing, most states will give you a monthly check to help with expenses when you adopt.  These kids need loving homes too.

  5. Yes but I wouldn't recommend the agency I went through, either. I didn't have to use an attorney. If you've been on a waiting list that long, I would say it is definite discrimination and time to change agencies. For some reason, certain agencies want to pair single mothers with children that wouldn't be a good match. There are long waiting lists for special needs children by parents who can financially care for them and have backgrounds working with these children. Single parents have their own life experiences and can be more beneficial to certain children. I would be happy to tell you my experiences but I will not do it here. Don't give up. Best wishes.

You do not owe these trolls any explanation why you have chosen to adopt. This is not a good forum to come to to get answers. Most of us adoptive parents have moved to other forums and are also members of other sites, like cafemom.com. Sorry, but the anti-adoption 'n***s' have taken over here and they will do their best to talk you out of what you are doing  and harass you if you don't back down, join their gang of trolls or leave.

added: I have heard very good things about Wide Horizons that RussiaWithLove suggested.

  6. You can adopt, but I think it is easier to go overseas for single moms.  I only know because I just read about a woman who adopted a Chinese girl.  Plus, the celebs do it all the time.

  7. It is possible for a single woman to adopt an infant, but in the US I think that it is rare.  Yes, you are being discriminated against.  The discrimination is being done by the "birth" mothers who choose parents for their relinquished babies.  They are in the drivers seat as to who their children go to.  If I were a single mother who was convinced by an agency that I, as a single parent family, am inferior to 2-parent familes, why would I turn around and place my baby in a single parent family?  It doesn't make sense.

Perhaps you would have more success if you tried to adopt an older child.

  8. yes, it is a lot harder, since they usually prefer to couples adopt kids to provide a well structure family environment

0,o I think is a lot easier to adopt over seas

there are certain countries that dont require a woman to be marry to be able to adopt.

  9. Just because your single , that doesn't give you any disadvantage.

You can still give that child loads of love .

Maybe an older child would be better , as they like their Independence and they don't really want one parent around let alone 2

The point is you can still give that child as much love as two parents
