The mountain is Appalachain, or possibly Sugar Mountain. i am planned to go this Tuesday, but i dont know if there will be enough snow. And i was wondering if the close before the end of the season (march 30) if it was too warm and there was not enough snow.

  1. Yes

  2. the resorts you speak of are no longer making snow for the season. there was a little natural last night (wed) and a little more in the forcast for Sun - mon. the bases at both of those mountains are decent for this time of year. there should be enough snow to have fun on, especially on a week day. there will be no lift lines. i watched the sugar cam for 20 min this morning and saw no one. not one person come down in front of the cam.  relax and enjoy the last of the season.

  3. I am curious if anyone has a theory how a ski resort without enough snow COULD operate.

  4. Ski can & do sometimes close before their announced closing date & this is usually due to circumstances beyond their control. Remember, these ski resorts want to stay open as long as possible to get more business.

A lot of ski areas don't have specific opening & closing dates but they will base it on the weather & snow conditions.

The best thing you can do is to contact these ski resorts that you're planning to ski at. They all have their won websites that list the current conditions. They give the weather report, the ski base in inches & feet {this base tells you how much snow they have & gives you an excellent idea on the conditions}. If that base is getting much below 2 feet, then you can expect they'll be closing soon this yr, since they won't be getting any new snow.

Also, you should check their website & see if all their runs & lifts are open. When late season arrives a lot of resorts stay open but they may have limited skiing such as less tha 100% of their runs & lifts operating. This will tell you that they don't have a lot of snow left.

Also, check the weather for temperature & other conditions such as possible rain. A lot of areas won't open if it's raining. Some will stay open in a warm day if they have enough snow.

Check the website & see if they show the time of their last ski condition report, this will tell you how recent & accurate the report is. Finally, if you want to be sure then find the phone number of the ski resort & call the day before you're planning the trip & find if they'll be open.

Also, if you have your choice of ski resorts then pick the one that is the furthest north & the one that has th highest elevetion. You'll have a better chance the the weather will be colder further north & it's usually colder at a higher elevation.

HAVE FUN!! March can still be good skiing.
