Can a sound be so loud, you can't hear it?

I know that certain frequencies are difficult to impossible for us to hear, but what about certain volumes? Can a sound be so loud, you won't even hear it?

I doubt it; I heard sounds that made me deaf for three days. If it's  loud enough you may not hear the next one.
