In my panic of being pulled over doing 115km/h in an 80km/h zone, i gave the police officer my expired G2 licence instead of my valid one. The police officer proceeded to write me a ticket for $265.00 not noticing the drivers licence she was copying was expired. Just hoping theres a way to get out of this.

  1. Bring that up in court, and the judge is likely to add a stupidity surcharge.

  2. YOU where speeding and YOU gave the officer your expired license. you are lucky you did not get into much trouble for that. and now YOU want to have the ticket dropped because of your stupidity?!? Be glad all you got was a speeding ticket!

  3. --- Why would a speeding citation be dropped because of a expired license? Are you saying because she did not notice your license was expired that it forms a technicality that should get you out of a speeding citation? If that is what you are trying for you  can forget it.

--- If she didn't cite you for the expired license its probably because she ran your information through a traffic computer and it advised that you are a valid operator. It doesn't matter that the hard copy you showed was the old one, what counts is that you were valid in actuality at the time.

--- Its SOP for traffic officers to run the DL status of drivers they contact and no doubt that is what she did with you. Just be glad she didn't cite you for presenting an expired DL and make you appear with the real one in court to waste your time.

  4. Nope, and you're lucky she didn't notice as that could have been an extra ticket.. Some officers will accept an expired DL, as long as the record check shows that you do have a valid license since the info's the same, but they don't have to. Consider yourself lucky and pay your fine.

  5. Will that change the fact that you were speeding like a buffoon?

    Of course not.

  6. No.  The license still belongs to you.

  7. She might have noticed it wasnt expired when she ran it in the computer. But no you cannot get out of it.

  8. No one mentioned most states state you may only have one drivers license, cannot have 2 from diff states or even 2 /copies have the same state, the expired license should have been turned in.

  9. That is the most incredibly illogical concept I ever heard.  At any time the officer or the court could add the charge of driving with an expired license.  I'd keep my mouth shut and not bring attention to this little over-sight.
