Can a spider tell if I'm looking at it ?

Sometimes when they run by me and I look at them for a few seconds, they tend to stop. Like the spider realised that I have just become aware of her and she tries to disguise herself as a rock.

  3. yeh probably duh they do have eyes like everything else living ho0w else would they see

  4. Hmmm... Thats a good one.

Well, they do have 8 eyes...

    And i do hate them....

  5. lmaooo ahaha this is such a funny question to ask.

considering the 6 or whatever eyes they have, probably!

  6. i think so, i mean, it has eight eyes!!!!!

  7. The spider can see you, but not the way you see it.

Most animals, especially predators, respond to movement.

When you're "looking at them for a few seconds" - you're tracking with your eyes and moving your head.

They're not thinking "oh c**p, Rick is looking at me again".

They're just reacting to something as big as a skyscraper - to them, watching them in a way that makes them enter a "flight" response - like balling up.

  8. I don't know why don't you ask her

  9. or realizes you have stopped moving and it can stop, too because it's safe. I'm thinking spiders brains arn't big enough to process that much info.

  10. I no exactly what you mean!!!

A spider actually chased me one time down the stairs...I was petrified!!!

I think they can tell :| geez!

    x

  11. Its probably waiting for the foot to squash it. I would say it can see you. Dont know about making eye contact though. Hope you let it go. I have a problem squatting a fly. I love your question.

  14. h**l YES..this happens to me too..it's effin creepy..they're super fast and bitey too..I HATE spiders..they are the worst ever..

  15. Most spiders have eight or more eyes...

so YES, it can tell you are looking at it!

  16. yea they have like 8 eyes!! duh. haha

  17. Not only can the spider tell if you are looking but he can look at several of your friends all at the same time.  Those eyes...

  18. They don't have the reasoning skills to become aware that you're looking at them.  They might sense your presence due to visual movement detection, vibrations, sound, or air movement.  That might cause them to stop and try to blend in to the environment.  But rest assured that they don't "know" that you are looking at them.

...or maybe it's just spidey sense.
