I have an Ameraucana mix rooster and may be getting a Silkie hen. Pretty good size difference there. I want the new girl in with the rest of the flock but I don't want him hurting her. I'd like to have some Ameraucana/Silkie mix chix too but can they get the parts together being that differerent in size?

  1. I wouldn't recommend putting a rooster and a chicken with that kind of size difference together because the rooster might hurt the silkie, there very small bird you know. Also she might not get along with your other hens if she is too small, she might get pecked to death by the other hens.

After all that if you still want to try it you can, just make sure you watch them like a hawk for the next few days and make sure the sikie isn't getting beat up, it can happen very quickly so keep a close eye on them. If she is found bleeding then remove her immediately.

Over all I think it could work but I stress the fact that if she is much smaller then the other hens it could potently result in her death, so be careful! The best of luck ~Shadow

  2. I can answer this AND I don't need to get a new job...

The larger rooster won't harm the bantam hen.

You said the rooster is a Amer. "mix"-  soooo you'll have mutts for chix!  If you want a true Silkie/Amer. mix get a 100% Amer. rooster!

  4. Yes it is possible. Actually it is probably that they will be successful. Don't be surprised when the baby chicks all turn out to be mongrels.
