  1. Only child support, IRS, or other government back loans can garnish Social Security checks.

If you bank account only has Social Security funds, they cannot attach that either.

  2. I assume you intended to say card. SSI is not attachable in the eyes of the courts in most cases

  3. NO.  The IRS can legally attach your bank account if you owe them money, though.

Call the credit card company manager if you feel they took unauthorized payment.

If it's missing, someone took it, and you need to know WHO.

  4. BDancer is correct. They cannot touch your social security income.

  5. If you have fallen behind on your payments with the store card, they may sue you. If this does happen, the court will weigh your current financial situation. If your social security disability check is the only income you have it is unlikely that they will take it from you. Quite honestly, it is rare that a card company will go that far unless you owe them a tremendous amount of money.

If you are being harassed by a creditor that is threatening to take that kind of action, you need to contact the attorney general's office in your area. They may be breaking the Fair Debt Collections Protection Act by threatening you with this.

  6. Can WHAT?
