The George Carlin Show featured a Yorkie named Miles (after jazz legend Miles Davis); George Carlin's character (George O'Grady) won the dog from a plastic surgeon in the first episode of the television series. Another character on the show commented to George "that's not a dog for a straight man."

A Taco Bell commercial once showed a guy telling his nephew(?) that "a real man doesn't own a dog smaller than a football".

I'm trying to come up with compelling ways to refute such stupid mentalities. [Yes, I'm a straight guy who adores his Yorkie].

  1. I love yorkies too and Im a guy

    Who cares what any thinks

Im straight and like all the other people answering, why not get more female attention than we already do

    haha

  2. I'd like to see you tell my husband that he's not "a real man" as he sits and cuddles his favorite chihuahua. I dare ya! He's 6'3" 260 lbs. Watching him cuddle such a delicate creature with his big hands, amazes me still. He's the "manliest man" I know, mostly because he has enough self-confidence that he doesn't have to be a macho idiot.

Enjoy your yorkie and take pride in the fact that you are above such idiocy as "real men don't own dogs smaller than a football".

We know the truth. Be proud you're one of us.

  3. I used to have a yorkie, they are cute! If i saw a cute guy, with a cute dog I would just think awesome!

  4. please,

an animal doesn't determine what sexual orination a person is

  5. YES.....for this simple fact......girls LOVE yorkies.....take your yorkie out and see who's "the man".....you'll be approached by many women and afterall, isn't that the most supreme and highest regard of a macho guy??? female attention????

  6. guy + dog = awesome

all dogs are cool and i think that if you didn't priss up the dog with a girly hair do, or dog cloths...all is well (I hate it when people dress their dogs.) THEY ARE DOGS! Not people, no matter how great our relationships are with them. Walk that dog with pride my friend!

  7. Nice goal but not easily accomplished.

People are so bound by their own judgments it ridiculous, you know?

Don't act any more manly just to impress people, let people get to know that you, in fact love your dog, regardless of breed gender or size.

  8. My real man (my husband) owns a 4lb. chihuahua.  He picked her out.  He walks he with pride and loves his dog. A dog doesn't make you or not.  Being a loving and caring human being makes you macho.

  9. Why be concerned what any small-minded person "might" think?  I'm with the others -- I would find a man with a yorkie very appealing!

  10. follow your heart on this one and love your doggie away.. girls and women lve it

  11. tell them it was a gift from your model girlfriend who couldn't keep it as she travels so much

  12. Yeah- sure. I work in Atlanta, where apartments are abundant. Almost all dog owners here, male and female own a smaller dog. I have only seen a dozen or so large breeds walking w/ their owners in the 2 years that I have been working in the city.

When I see someone with a small dog, what first pops into my mind is that A) They like having a "portable" dog that is easy to bring along or B) They don't have the space for a large breed.

My friend (guy) says "The only person that needs to know whether you're straight or not is your girlfriend". I echo his sentiment- does it really matter what all the judgemental folk think about you.

  13. As long as you are not dressing the pup in tutus and ribbons and girly things like that I think you should be fine.

Also, give him/her a real tough name like Rocky, Rex, T-Bone...something real Macho and Manly!

  14. well my advise....dress him cool...like you if your cool....:)..x
