........They are home schooled?

I'm a minor, and I'm going to apply for a job in a few months time. My school schedule is different than most children. I can do my homework at any time of the day, as long as I accomplish every assigned page, so do you think the manager will give me more working hours in the week taking that into consideration? Is there any possibility that I wouldn't have to work just on weekends?

  1. It depends on the laws in your state.  You won't be able to run certain types of machines (garbage crusher in the warehouse of a grocery store, that sort of thing) and you won't be able to work past a certain time, but you may be able to work more hours than a minor in school.  As long as the laws in your state allow it, I don't see why not.  I know homeschool kids in our area that work more hours than classroom schooled kids, and they're able to get good shifts during the day simply because their schedule is more flexible.

    Good luck!

  2. There is a possiability that you may get more hours since you can work them but you have to keep labor laws in mind as well. They can only work you so many hours a day. They must give you breaks after 2 hours and lunch if you work over 5. They can only give you a certian amount of hours so don't expect to be working 40 hours a week. You may also be more available for certian times of the day since you are home schooled.

  3. Homeschooled students are bound to the same laws regarding child labor as any other child, regardless of their method of education.  The place of employment would be breaking the law if they did not follow your state's laws regarding employment of minors.

  4. It depends on where you'd be working, and the manager there.  It's true that you can only work so many hours a day, hours a week, and only until like 10pm.  You will not be able to run certain kinds of machines.  It's possible that you could work a few more hours than public school kids, because you can work during school hours, and it's possible that you might be asked to work a few "extra" hours if a public school kid employee calls in "sick" or "got a test" or "got a date" or whatever excuse (they tend to do that often), so you might get to work a little on your day off.  It's possible that if your parent goes with you and asks for more hours, you might get a few more if it's for "work-study, for school credit", but the manager would have to approve.

    Good luck!
