i am always told to be careful around swans because they can break your arm with their wings, alledgedly.

but, is the force of being hit by a swan's wing greater than being punched by a grown man?

i will be surprised if this is the case.

  1. i wouldn't be TOO suprised..

the muscles involved in getting a 20+ pound bird to fly have to be pretty d**n big

  2. That depends on whether or not the swan is dying and has a camera taped to it's back.  Also, swans have been known to become notably more aggressive in supermarkets.

In June 1998 in Ipswich, England a swan known as Jimmy by its owner escaped from the farm by gnawing through the barbed-wire with its beak.  While his owner, James L. Madison III ran after it, the swan's powerful legs were just too much for Mr. Madison and eventually he had to give up the pursuit.  The breakaway swan made it to the train station where he pecked and pummeled (with his wings) a small, Jewish man to death, afterwards emptying his pockets and taking his rail-pass.  He then boarded a train to London upon which 12 passengers were brutally injured and one woman lost her life.  Upon arriving in London, he took off to the nearest Costco to stock up on a few things.  It was here however, that the slaughter was the greatest.  After hitting up the booze aisle and getting sloshed on whiskey the bird flew round the supermarket at speeds in excess of 80 miles an hour, targeing peoples eyes and striking with his massive beak.  A few patrons were said to have actually received a beak through the head (poking out to the other side) however reports are mixed and inconclusive.  Eventually as customers began to scatter and leave the store the only people remaining were the employees.  Their Orwellian-overlord boss would not allow them to leave because they had not fulfilled their productivity quota.  Employees tried hiding behind meat cases and barricading themselves in the back (behind the big double doors) but it was of no use.  The renegade swan flew straight through the glass display cases and chopped through the doors with his mighty strength using wings chiseled from granite.  Every employee that was there that day lost their lives, and it remains the single greatest tragedy in Costco history.  Eventually the police force arrived, armed to the teeth and unwilling to accept defeat.  The swan met them at the front, willing to do battle and sure that he would win.  As officers began firing automatic weapons at the swan, he began swinging his wings backwards, repelling the bullets towards the stunned police force.  They took cover behind their automobiles, but not before losing Tony and Gregg, two beloved members of their elite Swan-Suppressing team and countless others who were not important to be named.  Although shots were taken from well-covered locations, the swan was not backing down and he was unable to be taken down by their puny, police weapons.  The officers had no choice - it was time to call in the big guns.  They put in a call to a local army base and received two tanks as well as a hundred grenades.  The grenades were lashed together with a long piece of rope so they could all be activated at the same time.  The tanks were driven into place in front of the large glass window in front of the building.  Defiant to the last, the swan stood firm, unflinching and unconcerned that this might be the end of his swanny supermarket-storming days.  On the count, police officers barraged the windows with bullets, the pins on the grenades were pulled and they were thrown through the window (kind of like the worlds biggest, deadliest game of double-dutch), and the tanks began firing repeatedly through the window.  The concussion from the blast was so much that police cars were pushed back from the building crushing and killling three more officers and injuring over a dozen.  Some accounts even claim the tanks rocked backwards, however this is unsubstantiated.  In all, 83 people lost their lives that day and over 200 more were injured.  The police department sustained casualties in the middle thirties.  Subsequent blood tests on the swans remains showed high levels of phencyclidine (PCP) and a blood alcohol content of 4.8%.  Among the debris was a video camera documenting the entire rampage and likely picked up by the swan from an electronics store in the same complex as the Costco.  Although the footage has been banned by the British and United States' governments (and about 9 others) it has made its way onto a DVD released in the underground market titled "Swan Song:  The Final Act".  On some versions, the soundtrack is comprised of entirely unreleased material by Jimmy Page, however, Mr. Page has publicly denied any involvement in said project.
