  1. Honey may contain spores.  Infants do not have adequate stomach acid to destroy the spores.  In adults stomach acid as well as other intestinal secretions inhibit the spores from growing.  

    The reason adults can get botulism is because of the TOXIN.  Honey only contains spores, not toxins.  You are safe!  


  2. The reason babies younger than twelve months old can't eat honey is because it contains botulinum toxin spores. Same thing for syrups.  They don't affect adults or older kids, but can cause botulism food poisoning when exposed to the immature digestive tract.  After the age of one.. people don't have problems with honey.
