i have seen a solar driven fm radio set ...it is easy bcoz what we need to supply is just 3V....but what my doubt xactly is if we apply the same here and produce around 12V or 24V dc using solar energy and then using an inverter we could easily get 230V ac......is this method applicable?plz help me out...i wanna wrk in this area and wanted to do a project if this works.....

  1. why not?

We can easily use solar energy  for television. For this purpose we have some essential parts:-

    1. Big solar panel 2 nos.

    2.Sole charger (16 A)

    3.Big Battery (120 Oh)

    4.Inverter (600 watt.)

Try it.I use Computer through solar energy.

  2. With the technology that I have seen throughout the course of history, my answer is yes. They already have a solar-powered car so why not a solar-powered television.

  3. There are pelnty of options for powering an entire house with solar.

It can be converted/inverted to become AC power, but the loss in energy to convert is rather large and in my iopinion, not worth it.

There are 12 vt appiances, and the easiest way to find them is to simply search, 12 vt appliances!  Camper stores have a lot of them, including TV's.

On the issue of the solar cells themselves, unless you have a battery to store the enrgy (or more than one likely) you will only be able to run the TV or other appliance during the sunny part of the day.

The last thing to be aware of, it is not just the 12volts, but also the amperage part of the output you will need to consider.

There are some basic electronics formulae that you should learn,   Voltage x Amperage = Wattage.   If you have a 60 watt lightbulb, at 120 volts, it needs .5 amps. Many solar cells run at the milliamp, or onethousandth of an amp range. at 12 volts, that same bulb would need 500 amps, so you need to be sure your batteries will hold enough amperage (usually amp hours) to do what you need, and that you have enough solar cells to charge your batteries to those levels.

  4. well a typical TV will be AC unless you get one that is made for a car (DC). But a solar array can power anything, but you will just have to convert from DC to AC.

You will need to get the actual tv and see how may amps it draws and size the solar array to be able to produce that amperage at 110V ac.
