Can a tornado rip your arms and legs off?

my huband and i are in a debate, if a tornado has enough strength can it rip your arms and legs off if your in the middle of it..

  1. By it's wind itself, no.  There is not that much difference in wind speed over that short of a distance.  The problem comes from the flying debris that usually accompanies the funnel wall.  That solid stuff, which can consist of twisted and shredded metal, trees, shingles, etc, moves at close to the speed of the wind and obviously can do a lot of damage over and above the tornadic wind itself.

  3. Never in history a tornado was a Texas Chain Massacre ripping limbs off. However, sharp objects flying around inside a tornado at speeds over hundreds of miles an hour comes in contact with you could possibly rips a limb off or two. But the winds itself is insufficient to rip a limb off.

  4. nah, it could pick you up and slam you into something a mile away, but usually dont rip limbs off

  5. No it can't. Unless you are stuck/holding so tightly onto something, and the tornado is "tugging" at you, then your limbs might be ripped off.
