  1. When I last drove in Germany, about 5 years ago, they did not require an international driver's license for americans.

  2. your american licence is well accepted, no international needed. it's valid for up to 30 days of stay, if i remember right.

  3. Get an international driver's license...

  4. The other people are right - check with the rental company to find out their specific restrictions (age, what kind of license you need). There are Avis and Hertz here, also check out the discount rental car company Sixt and Sixti - they have small cars really cheap!

But PLEASE before you drive here, read about the road rules. There are some very important rules that if you don't know them or follow them, you can have a bad accident, for example:

    - NEVER pass on the right on the highway

    - when there is not a stop sign at an intersection, the person on your RIGHT has the right  of way --- even if you don't have a stop sign, you have to slow down and look if anyone is coming from the right before you go into the intersection

Please take the time to read the rules, so you have a fun time & don't end up getting hurt!!

Look at the link below, pay special attention to the right-of-way section and the section on street signs!

  5. ok well first of all are you looking to hire a car there?..for most of the large rental companies..Hertz is who ive used you need to be over the age of 21 and have held your driving license for more than three years..you dont need to apply for an international license..im living in germany and whenver i go travelling i rent a car with my irish driving license..if you want further backup/assureance go to your nearest rental company and they can tell you too!

  6. I just returned from Germany.  American driver's licenses work in every EU country.  However, trains, taxis, and streettrains are very effective and inexpensive if you purchase them with an ISIC card or if you are a student or senior.  They are often faster than driving and safer.

  7. You can get an international driver's license at AAA.  $10.
