Can a tow company come after me for a past tow and storage fees after 4 years?

I sold a car but the buyer didnt change the registration till after the car was towed.When I got the notice of the tow I informed the tow company of the buyers name ,address and also informed the DMV.4 years later the tow company has sent collections on me for the tow and storage fees

  1. At the time the car was towed, you were the owner as reflected in the official listing through the department of motor vehicles office, therefore you are responsible for any charges the car incurred during that time.  Pay the bill, and go after the person you sold it to to get reimbursed.

    Yes, they can go after you until the statute of limitations is reached, which is generally 7 years.


  2. Well since it was still under your name i assume yes, Unless you were to have evidence that you already had sold it.

  3. then that is down to them to pay not you as the car was not yours at the time

  4. Did you send in a release of liability to DMV?  This puts them on notice that the vehicle is no longer yours.  Otherwise, it's still your on paper
