  1. yes, a jet does not need both engines to fly or to stay aloft as long as the wings continue to provide lift and reduce drag everything would be ok.

  2. that i know of all commercial planes that use more than one engine are required to be able to fly with an engine out as a safety precaution in case one fails

the FAA has lots of regulations that commercial planes must meet before they are certified to carry passengers

  3. Yes, is part of the passive safety system (redundancy), Even if both engines fail, the plane can descend gently, touch down is the problem.

  4. Yes, if the pilot is capable. Every part23 (and others) twin engine has to be able to show some reasonable climb at some reasonable altitude on one engine.  That makes sense because the 2nd engine is supposed to help saftey, not hurt it.  There are some bad times to loose an engine, like just after leaving the ground.

The 777 had to get special permission (a.k.a. "change the rules for me") to be able to fly a direct path across the oceans because it only has 2 engines (747 has 4).

  5. yes there are multiple accounts of this in wars.

  6. Yep it's a requirement for reciprocating engine aircraft to be able to climb at least 50 feet per minute generally

  7. I can't remember the exact story but I think they tested a Triple 7 on one engine and it flew for like 7 hrs or something on one engine. So in other words yes its possible for a twin to fly on one engine.

  8. Every aircraft has what is called a "sink rate" that will tell you how much altitude you will lose flying on one engine so you will know how far a distance you can travel based on the current altitude you're at and wind resistance direction.

  9. even the jumbo jet 747 can fly with 1 engine only when 3 engines r out. but the problem is, u need to land within 40km from where u are, or plan to kiss the ground buddy!

  10. Yes, It is an FAA requirement to be certified.

  11. ,Absolutely.  It's called redundancy

  12. yes because tom licks the table and also i'm a plane

    go on one straight away

  13. All day long.
