  1. To clarify what Tropicales says - you can only travel direct if you have an OFAC licence.

Otherwise, it is illegal (but many thousands od US citizens go via third countries).

  2. No. You can go through Mexico though. When you arrive in Cuba you can show your american passport and instead of stamping your passport they will stamp a separate piece of paper. when you come back to the USA customs and immigration will ask which countries you visited. Since there is no proof on your passport it is better to not mention that you visited Cuba. If you mention it they will pull you aside and hold you with questions and search you completely and ask you if you have permission from the US Government.

I've been there twice and the first time I mentioned it naively and they took forever to let me go.

The second time, I actually received permission from the US Treasury to visit Cuba. So when I said that I had visited Cuba, they pulled me aside and started to interrogate... but then I pulled out the permission letter and they let me go right away.

  3. Roberto has given you accurate information except that you CAN fly directly into Cuba from the US...especially when you have the travel license. There are flights going to and from Cuba and the US daily.

But the easiest thing is to fly from a 3rd country.

Hope you have a great time in Cuba...for sure you will!

  4. Yes from Miami you can fly charter to La Habanna. Now when i was down there it was mostly Cubans that had American citizenship that were flying. They were boarding and i was sitting waiting to board. i dont know if they were American citizens i can only assume they were.

  5. NO.

  6. sort of you need a letter from the dept. of the treasury

you can apply to go to Cuba for "religious" reasons..

but it's tricky.. but yes there are flights all the time from Miami direct to Havana and yes Americans are on it all the time.

but if you dont' feel like jumping through all those hoops then go through cancun
