Question:

Can a universal remote blow your tv?

We are using a new universal remote and my son turned the tv off via the remote and now we can not turn the tv back on. I have tried turning it on directly on the tv but all attempts have failed. All other equipment, i.e. xbox 360, vcr--are plugged into the same outlet and they are functioning perfectly. So should I panic? The darn thing didn't blow or anything dramatic, he just turned it off via this remote...

  1. It was probably you'r X-box they are new and everything overloads and have a break down and mess things in the same outlet up. So no it wasn't you remote and the x-box info helps a lot too!

  2. unplug your television set let sit for 3 to 5 minutes should reset itself . common with todays technologhy

  3. now you are going to need the tv remote

  4. yes i have one and i have to be careful

  5. i have no idea

  6. Don't Panic.

It is HIGHLY unlikely that your universal remote damaged your TV or put it into some unresponsive state.  If your TV really died, it most likely is just a coincidence.  Kind of like when you turn on a light switch and a bulb blows out.  The switch didn't cause the bulb to die.  It was already going to die.

As someone suggested, unplug your TV, wait a few minutes, then plug it in again.  If this doesn't work, make sure that the power cable is fully plugged into the back of the TV and hasn't come loose.  Try plugging the TV into a different outlet.  Consult your owner's manual for other "Troubleshooting" instructions and/or contact the manufacturer customer support for the nearest repair facility.
