Hi I was looking ont this as well. I personally think it wont be long before DVR's will cooperate with an external 2.5" HHD.

We have Dish Network and they are currently enabling the USB port to work with external hard drives.  You have to call their customer service and they will do something to turn it on.  It did cost $40 to have them do this.  I don't know if it's for all of their receivers but our 722 is now enabled.  It rocks because we can record so much now.
