I was told by friends, whom are not in the vehicle business, you can have a salvaged/rebuilt title changed (washed) to a clean title but I can't find any info to back this up. Is this a pipe dream or can it be done. It is for the state of Oklahoma. Thanks.

  1. sorry,no

  2. It is possible in some cases, and it tends to involve titling a car first in one state, then in another, then back again somewhere else.  It's easiest to get a specific brand (say, flood) changed to a generic salvage title when going from a state that has more specific branding to one that only does "salvage" titles.

It is also possible to remove a brand entirely if you can find a corrupt DMV.

I'm pretty sure the former is illegal, and I KNOW the latter is illegal.  If you are seriously considering this, you are a scumbag.

  3. No, once you have a branded title it remains that for the remainder of the life of the car.  Once it finally goes to the crusher, it gets a "junk" title and is taken out of the state data base.

Oklahoma has three title types, regular, salvage, and junk.

A junk title can never be on the road, but can be sold for parts or crushed.

  4. Possible to wash a title, but complicated and immoral. If you're building something off a frame however, it would be branded as "rebuilt" or "kit." No way to clean that up.

  5. its sad but its true, people get away with this all the time..
