Question:

Can a vet 'hear' worms in a cat's tummy?

I took my cat to the vet because I think he has worms. He has a swollen tummy and stunted growth. However, the vet didn't test his p**p or anything....he only looked at him and listened to his tummy and said he 'heard' worms. Is this possible?

  1. NEVER heard such a thing..

PLUS the vet would not know what KIND of worms

a stool sample is required.. they find worm eggs (not actual worms) in the stools and can tell what kind of worms your cat has..

this vet is either very smart or dumb

read this link on food.. maybe the poor growth is diet related.. NEVER buy any food your vet tries to sell you.. remember they are PAID to sell you a food.. just because a vet sells it does not mean it is good

    (eg. Science Diet is crappy)

  2. Worms do not make noise to "hear".  Your vet probably heard stomach gurgling, or gassy sounds, which can mean a multitude of things.  The swollen stomach and stunted growth is consistent with a prolonged case of worms.  If a vet is pretty certain that a cat has worms, they will often just worm with Drontal which will kill all types.  If the cat exhibits the classic symptoms of worms, and has all of the symptoms, it's really just a waste of money to pay for a fecal test.

I wouldn't be concerned with the fact that he didn't look at the p**p, but the hearing worms has me baffled.

  3. Not that I know of, but he might have heard unusual gut sounds consistent with intestinal disease.  A distended belly and stunted growth, especially in a young animal, is a pretty good indication to treat for worms on it's own.

  4. when your cat poops are there worms in there?

    why dont you look yorself..
