Can a virus change your search preference settings?

My safe search settings are continually being turned off.There are only two users on this computer and the other user says he is not changing the settings.Can a virus or worm be responsible?

Typically a browser hijack will direct your browser to a website anytime you try a search, and the resulting behavior will be that only your home button works.  It's certainly possible, but I would look at your safe search settings in more detail.  If it continues unexplained, run an anti-spyware app like Xoftspy SE.
