Can a washer or dryer spark a fire from gas vapors?

My husband put a gas can for our lawn mower in the garage and I noticed that the smell gas gotten increasingly strong over the course of the day. I just checked and the outside of the container is wet. Our washer and dryer is in there and I was wondering if running them could spark the vapors. Obviously I am not going to. I just was curious.

Yes, it could. If the garage is closed in and the vapors stay trapped, the washer or dryer, if running, could ignite the gas vapors and start a fire. The fuel can should be placed in a flammable locker or stored in a shed that doesn't have electricity going to it.
