  1. I hope she does tell you what her or his job consist of.  This way if you agree you hire her or him and if you don't you move on and go on interviewing the next person.

  2. Edit: Frankly unless it's a very big or complicated wedding or the bride has noone to really rely on (maid of honor, family, etc etc), a wedding planner is a waste of money...

A wedding planner is no different than an event manager, except she's dealing with picky brides and pickier mothers and mother in laws and has to compromise and make peace between them all.

Depending on what exactly you have her take care of... but usually a wedding planner takes care of everything before, during and after the wedding.

    Before:

You contract her, she contracts everyone on your behalf. Negotiations with all suppliers (halls, decorators, bakery, florists, invitations, photography, etc, etc)

Works with you and your family to find out what you want and goes and gets it for you.

Arranges all shipping, hotels, and everything else with the suppliers/service providers.

    Onsite:

Has a precise schedule of events and makes sure everything runs smoothly. Something always happens last minute (ie. the cake is in the wrong location, the flowers are at a different hall, the servers are confusing appetizer orders)

She will/should of course be invited to eat at dinner and have cake.

    After:

Settles all final outstanding payments with service providers

Ensures everything is returned properly and arranges for shipping/pickup of various things (bouquet, outfits, etc etc) after bride and guests would have left.

    Assists with any other signings.

  3. I agree with roxxn. A wedding planner can be a big waste of money, and time if you have to coordinate with her schedule. I've always found it easier to do things myself. And every once in a while I'll have a friend of family member help. And everything comes out fine.

  4. My suggestion would be watch Who's Wedding Is It Anyway? But for the most part a wedding planner is there completely to relieve the Bride of stressful decisions and situations. A good wedding planner is hard to find and you need to book them WELL in advance. They will be at the rehearsal as well as at the ceremony itself but they usually are behind the scenes making sure that nothing goes wrong.  If she does not watch the ceremony, she is usually at the reception hall making sure that nothing goes wrong there because trust me PLENTY can go wrong at the reception hall!!!

  5. you plan any and all aspects of the wedding

    set timelines

    coordinate vendors

    deal with emergencies

talk to bride with cold feet

Rehersal if they choose to have you plan it, you make sure things are served on time, check on food, walk around and see if everything looks right, make sure everyone is wokring

ceremony you make sure the bride and groom have everything, that the party knows what to do, where to stand, what to say, you send out people as the procesional starts, watcht he ceremony standing or sitting from the back, and get them out and offf to photos

photos-you watch as they take them, sometimes suggest poses

reception- get there as soona s you can, make sure appetizers and drinks start, make sure music is going, greet guest, help them to thier seats, get the dj to announce the couple as they arrive, and jsut be sure everyone is doing their job

  6. You will need to sit down before you hire her and gover everything with here ask her to list all her duties and then ask any questions she may not of answered!

    Good Luck

  7. The thing to remember about a wedding planner is that he or she makes a living through the wedding industry. The wedding industry makes money through big, overblown, $20k weddings. Not so much to worry that the wedding planner will not worry about cost, but he or she will have a specific mindset which is more likely to tend towards the flashy.

  8. yes she can if she wants to :)
