  1. Most birds love mirror's. Some talk to that bird in There-:)

Is like them having a buddy. No, they haven't seen them selves so

they don't understand that is them.

All Amazons have strong beaks, so be careful what your bird gets a hold of, for safety reason's.

The real mirror's we use are dangerous because  they can break and cut a beak or mouth, Etc. and because mirror's contain lead and lead kills birds.

    Go to DrsFosterSmith.com     http://www.drsfostersmith.com/

they have two mirror's for birds. One is a Talk 'N' Play, other is just a mirror.

  2. It's difficult to say.  The only species of bird that has been experimentally shown to recognize itself in a mirror is a magpie (see http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn14...  - and that's only a week or two old).  I think that some parrots do recognize themselves, but hate to generalize on skimpy data.

Mirrors are either a fine toy or a safety hazard, depending on the type of mirror.  I wouldn't let him chew on a mirror with glass on it - too dangerous (he's an amazon - the rim *will* come apart).  If it's a stainless steel mirror, though, and the edges aren't too sharp, it should be OK.

We have an amazon who likes mirrors.  He clearly recognizes that it's not another real bird in the mirror.  I don't know if he knows it's his own reflection.  He likes to "mirror box" with it (he doesn't do this with actual parrots), which makes me suspect he might.  He would also to pull the frame apart, which however, we cruelly prevent him from doing (these are large mirrors in the bathroom and bedroom, not safe for birds to shred).

  3. no they ant. the only bird that can identify itself in the mirror is a pigeon .
