  1. My ex-husband bought a car for our daughter and put it in his name with a different address than mine , yet it was insured on my policy. So yes, but it probably will depend on where you live. Ask your insurance carrier.

  2. It does not matter who owns the main policy, as long as he (and any other drivers in the household) are listed on the policy.

If he was not listed on the policy, things could get sticky if he had an accident.

  3. The only time this would be a problem is if there is a claim... The repair/loss check would be written in the name of the person who owns the insurance policy. As long as the owner of the policy is willing to give it to the owner of the car (or get the car fixed) then it's no big deal.

Because of this.....If the car has a loan, the loan holder (bank) may require the insurance to be in the name of the owner. So the car would be paid off in the event that the car is totalled.

Nothing else will ever call that to anyone's attention

  4. If the title is in the husbands name only -- then the insurance has to list him as well.  It's call "insurable interest".

Most companies are going to require the husband and wife to both be listed on the policy (if they both are licensed drivers and both living in the same house hold).

  5. It has to be under the name of the owner of the car.

  6. Well, sort of.  It depends on who you're trying to make happy.

On the standard policy, it says, "who is the named insured" and that's the person listed, AND THEIR SPOUSE.  So obviously she'd have to list him as a driver on the car, but he'd automatically be covered, so there's no "insurable interets" issue, although all checks would get made payable to HER.

However, if he's FINANCING the car, the policy with only HER name at the top of it, is not going to satisfy the lender - they won't be able to match it up to his loan, so it will look like there isn't any insurance on his car from their point of view.

Of course, a NON standard policy, all bets are off - you'd have to check with your agent.

  7. yes you can... i even had my husband insured on my car before we were married

  8. Probably you CAN, but if there is an accident it may be sticky.  It all depends on who has an insurable interest in the vehicle.  If he crashes it and you both file separate claims, you may be in HUGE trouble
