Question:

Can a window unit air conditioner be placed and used indoors?

My husband and I inherited a large window unit air conditioner from a relative who recently passed away. Unfortunately, it is too big to be able to place on the only window we have in our apartment, and unfortunately the apartment doesn't have air conditioning, only heating.

Is there a way to still be able to use the unit, placing it somewhere indoors?

This is something totally new to both of us, and don't know what to do.

  1. Sorry you are not going to be able to use your window AC.  If it is to big to fit in your window it most likely require 220 volts to run.  Sell it and buy a smaller one with the money.

    Good Luck

  2. Absolutely not. It emits carbon monoxide. You should sell it and get one that fits or maybe a portable air conditioner.

  3. No, its going to drip water all over the place.  Sell it and use the money towards an air conditioner that will fit your window.  The newer ones are more energy efficient.

  4. the simple and quick solution for this is to put a table by the window and then the A/C on top of that with the hot side facing out .

The only other problem is the drain water coming from it,,,maybe a hose out the window or a pan to catch it. Make sure the hot end is tilted downwards so the water runs in that direction. Now you can have a cooler apt for the summer.

  5. Only problem is hot air comes out one side, cold air comes out the other and waste heat from the motor & compressor comes out all over.

Net result - adds more heat.
