Can a woman be a member of the Yakuza?

Just wondering. I know they are highly involved in prostitution and stuff.

  1. The cool part about yakuza women is the Colt .25 stashed in the obi. Check out the "Gokudo no Onna" movie series. In the real world, I agree with the above answer. It's a very well documented incident.

    but yes its possible for woman to become a yakuza member

  3. It could be but very rarely that woman would be a member of Japanese Yakuza except a part of top management family.

    In this 21st century Japanese Yakuza has increased to be involved the territory of  legal business.

    Gambling, prostitution and drugs are less profitable but more risky for their longevity nowadays.

    Chinese and/or Korean mafias in Japan are different story.

After the death of Taoka, the heir apparent Kenichi Yamamoto (kumicho of the Yamaken-gumi) was serving a prison sentence. He died of liver failure shortly afterward. Fumiko Taoka, Kazuo Taoka's wife, stepped forward to fill the leadership void until a new kumicho could be selected by a council of eight top-level bosses.

    Also, the best seller "Yakuza Moon - Memoirs of a Ganageters Daughter" by Shoko Tendo will also give you some insight into the status of wives, girlfriends and daughters of the Yakuza.  It's not the galmorous life you might have been led to believe.
