Can a woman wear a Tuxedo to a Wedding?

I found one similar answer...but I'm straight. My best male friend is getting married, and I'm expected to be one of his groomsmen. To match the party I'm supposed to wear a tux, I frankly, will be more comfortable in the tux anyway. It has been vehemently pointed out to me that this may give people the wrong impression about my sexuality, or draw attention away from the happy occasion. Please HELP! Thanks!

  1. "groomswoman" not groomsman! i have never heard of that before! i think it's a little wierd why wouldn't he just talk to his fiance and have you be one of the bridesmaids. i think it would look wierd if you were the only female on his side next to all the men and the women next to the bride. i would think you were a L*****n. sorry for being so blunt but this is the first time i have ever heard of this. how embarrassing for you! if it were me (most of my friends are men) i would just not be in the wedding. maybe he thought that you would say no if he asked you to wear a tux! i don't know anyone who would have that kind of wedding. how embarrassing!!!!!

  2. Nothing wrong with that. But change for the party.

  3. wear a tux jacket with a black skirt

and then at the party change into a feminine top

because honestly if i saw a women wearing a tux i would think she was g*y

  4. ok well wear make-up n try flirting w/ guys not girls lol

n if u have a bf there is nothing to worry about

b/c they will obviously see u with him

    i think u'll look fine =)

  5. If you're more comfortable in a tux, and so is the groom, wear one. But get one that fits you well, so you look like a woman. You can feminize it with a great manicure, maybe a single rose in your hair, good earrings, etc.

  6. I think you can still keep the uniformity of the groomsmen as far as colors and style goes but do something which looks a little more feminine.  This might include a more feminine version of a tuxedo, possibly with wide leg pants or a long, straight skirt, long sleeve blouse, and a jacket made for a woman.  It would look strange for you to wear a mans tuxedo and it will also not fit you the same way it will fit a man.

  7. Most groomswoman wear a dress that matches the bridesmaids.  You can wear a black dress in the same style as the BMs so you stand out a little, but still blend in(does that make sense?). I wouldn't expect a man to wear a dress if he stood up for the bride.

  8. Liza Manelli did

  9. If that is what he's asking you to wear, then wear it with confidence.   I've performed ceremonies before where the "straight" woman wore a tux.  I've seen "straight" male bridesmaids hold small bouquets.

Sometimes the female groomsman wears a skirt instead of pants and sometimes she's dressed similar to the other bridesmaids; I don't think there is any set rule.

And I can't believe anyone would question your sexuality because you wore a tux.

  10. Considering they make tuxedos for women, I fail to see how this will call your sexuality into question.

  11. A small town and a g*y wedding at this point why do you care what people think, wear the tux.If they don't know you now they don't need to know you.

  12. yes a friend of mine wore a combo dress slash tux sort of saying they planned to have a marriage with equal respect etc

  13. I would go with a black woman's business suit with a white shirt underneath but no tie.  Be sure that the suit is well-tailored and looks like a woman's suit.  That way, you will blend into the group of men without looking man-ish.
